Manuscript/Story Submission Guidelines

Subject Matter

Whatever you submit must be, first, be funny or at least humorous and no more than PG-13 rated. No sci/fi, romance, porn or gay or lesbian materials. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that. There are just more appropriate web sites.)

Submission Format

Books & Short Stories

Via the internet—submissions will be accepted in .pdf, Word .doc, or .txt formats. Email to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Cartoons/Graphics

Submit in either .jpg or tif format.

Internet Humor

the message portion of your forwarding email:

I, (insert name), received the following email on (insert date) and, to the best of my
knowledge, do not know its origination. I do not know if the material is
copyrighted. I further grant permission to The Real McCoy Publishing Company to
publish the subject email on their web site (the-real-mccoy.net) at no cost or
obligation. I (do or do not) wish to receive a credit line, i.e., “Submitted by . . . “

Mail Submissions

For longer manuscripts, they may be mailed as follows: No paper manuscripts accepted.
Submissions must be in CD ROM form in either .pdf, Word.doc, or .txt format. Manuscripts should be mailed to:

No submissions will be returned unless accompanied with a self-addressed, postage-paid
return envelope.

Fees & Payments

Fees:

Manuscript reading: No fee.

Short Stories/Jokes/Cartoons: $5.00, one-time, set up fee (to be deducted from your first payments).

Books: $25.00, one-time, set-up fee (to be deducted from your first payments).

Internet Humor: No fee.

If, at the sole discretion of The Real McCoy Publishing Company, your manuscript or materials are accepted, you will be offered a “Contract for Electronic Publication.” This contract will include a royalty payment schedule. As a rule-of-thumb, you will be paid per the following guidelines:

Internet Humor & Jokes: No contract. No payments. (Hey, we’re not Reader’s Digest.)
Short Stories/Cartoons: Up to 50% of the price charged by The Real McCoy Publishing Company for downloads. (Purchasers are usually charged $0 25 per downloaded page.)

Short Stories/Cartoons: Up to 50% of the price charged by The Real McCoy Publishing Company for downloads. (Purchasers are usually charged $0.25 per downloaded page.)

Books: Up to 50% of the price charged by The Real McCoy Publishing Company based on end-user charges per download.

If merchandise is offered, a profit-sharing agreement will be included in the contract.
Payment will be determined based on the number of times your work is downloaded from the-real-mccoy.net web site. Payments will be made quarterly. All royalty checks will be accompanied by a detailed accounting. The contract will include an “escape clause” to allow you to terminate your contract in the event you are offered a publishing contract by a traditional publisher.

Final note: If your manuscript/work is accepted and published at our web site, we wouldn’t suggest that you quit your day job. Realistically, if your work is popular, your royalty checks might buy a nice steak dinner every now and then.
